What can I do to stay healthy and prevent ED?
For the best chances of preventing ED, and having a happy and fulfilling sex life, it’s important to try to stay as emotionally and physically healthy as possible.
Practising mindful techniques (like meditation), eating plenty of fresh fruit and veg, exercising, and sleeping well, will all help your overall psychological well-being. Your GP may also recommend therapies such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to help you deal with specific emotional problems, like depression or anxiety. Relationship counselling is also available if you are experiencing difficulties with your partner, which can also be a contributing factor to ED.
One of the main physical reasons for ED is atherosclerosis (the narrowing of arteries), caused by high blood pressure, cholesterol diabetes and smoking. In these cases, losing weight, stopping smoking or having a lifestyle change can help reduce the the symptoms of ED and improve your overall physical health.
